A body oriented approach to psychotherapy

I offer Core Process Psychotherapy, a mindfulness-based approach taught at the Karuna Institute since 1982 (now in Bristol).

This approach emphasises body awareness. Including the body creates depth and safety as we inquire into our experience, and can provide more stability when working with trauma. It is also psychodynamic - we recognise our suffering often stems from learnt behaviours and defences taken on in childhood to protect against hurt.

By honouring our vulnerability, grief and anger, we can learn from the wisdom in these powerful energies in different ways. This helps us bring more awareness to our defences that no longer serve us relationally and find a freer more healthy way of relating in life.

Trusting your intuitive orientation

A good therapist can act as a mirror for you to find a fuller, more embodied expression of your experience, helping you become clearer about our needs, purpose and vision in life.

Gradually in therapy, you learn to trust our own intuitive orientation more. Together, we can explore the challenges you face by sensing and feeling into them.

Over time, this helps you develop:

  • Greater awareness of your heart and mind.

  • A more grounded sense of yourself.

  • A deeper sense of agency in your life.
